Hidden Messages in Nature
Like leaving a note for a friend, the Blue Jay left his feather for me. As I pondered his beautiful feather, I felt connected to the powerful message he wanted to impart. Blue Jays are members of the Crow family, they are bold birds who proudly wear their royal colors for all to see. Their crown-like crest on top their head, further amplifies their self-confidence. The Blue jay’s color is a rich indigo, purple, and blue – these are colors associated with intuition and spiritual awakening. The Blue Jay reminds you to stay connected to your intuition and Spirit, for this will give you confidence and boldness to move forward in your life.
Did you know that the Blue Jay’s feathers do not contain any blue pigments? According to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Blue Jay’s feathers contain a melanin pigment which colors them brown. The feathers are perceived as blue because of the effect of light scattering through the feather, like a prism releasing a rainbow, it refracts blue. I found this so interesting because to take this photograph of the feather I had to turn it just right and allow the sun to filter through it. Several attempts at the wrong angle gave the feather a brown appearance.
One again our Creator has hidden great mysteries within his creation – the Blue Jay teaches us that in order to connect with your intuition you must connect with the Light of Spirit and allow it to flow through you, and in so doing, your intuitive sight is revealed. Intuition cannot be accessed through the ego or mind. Yes, we do have something referred to as ‘gut instinct’, which is often confused with intuition. Gut instincts speak to us through the physical body like feeling a bad vibe or danger, they are just one of the ways your intuition speaks to you. True intuition is often called ‘direct knowing’ as it allows you to access information which you otherwise would not have knowledge of. Like knowing that your friend who lives 500 miles away is feeling depressed and needs to talk to you. Or feeling like you should take a different route to work, which results in you avoiding a big traffic jam.
Nature is amazing and is always speaking to us. The next time you come across a simple feather or acorn laying on the ground, I encourage you to stop a moment and ponder its meaning – for there are messages all around you.
