Where the Fence Disappears

Life unfolds through a series of choices, many so subtle we barely notice them as we move along our path. When I look at this barbed wire fence—stretching through the pasture and disappearing into the fog—I’m reminded of how easily we can travel forward without truly arriving anywhere new.

The repeating barbs echo the patterns we often revisit in our own lives. Familiar thoughts. Habitual reactions. Old decisions replayed again and again, not because they serve us, but because they are known. Over time, these patterns can begin to feel confining, even when they were once created as a form of protection.
The fog softening the landscape speaks to those moments when clarity feels distant—when vision is obscured and direction feels uncertain. This lack of clarity often arises not from a lack of options, but from a lack of awareness. When we move through life unconsciously, we can become tangled in the very patterns that limit us.
Choice, when met with awareness, is a powerful force. It directs energy, opens pathways, and restores movement where things have felt stuck. Unconscious choice tightens us, much like the barbs along the wire. Conscious choice, however, creates space. It loosens the grip of old reactions and invites a different response to emerge.
When we pause long enough to notice our thoughts and emotions—and choose not to respond as we always have—it’s as if we take wire cutters to the fence. The pattern breaks. An opening appears. And with it, the possibility of a new direction.
May you gently recognize the patterns that no longer serve you.May awareness guide your choices. And may you allow your path to be shaped not by habit or fear, but by the quiet wisdom of your soul.
