Fall Reflections 2018

Signs, messages, and guidance,

Are always available, always speaking to us…

A single leaf falls from the tree landing in a reflective pool of water. Signifying the beginning of the fall season. Fall is a season of turning inward and reflecting. As I took this photograph the wind picked up and ripples of movement started to form around the leaf. Can you see the movement in the water? Movement creates change. In an instant it can erase the reflection and create a new one. When you change the thoughts or emotions you are holding, or the beliefs you are embracing you can create instantaneous changes in your life.

Our bodies are also changing to make ready for the cooler months ahead. The ebb and flow of the seasons affects us, moving in and out like the tides of the ocean. As the seasons begin to change take time and focus on your body and how it is feeling. Do you feel sluggish or heavy? Stiff or flexible? Your body is sending you messages as to what areas need to be supported during the oncoming months. Do you need to add more exercise, healthier foods, or get more sleep? Your body is whispering to you, are you listening?

Pay attention to your diet, as we move into cooler months we should move our focus from cold fruits and salads to warm steamed vegetables and soups. When you cook, use warm spicy herbs like ginger, garlic, turmeric and capsicum to help to improve circulation and strengthen your immune system as well.

If you’re suddenly feeling much colder despite only a minimal change in temperature this could indicate that your hypothalamus or thyroid gland is having a hard time adjusting to the temperature changes. This can be brought on by stress or by a lack of nutrients and minerals that the thyroid needs to function. Nature's Sunshine's formula Herbal Trace Minerals contains alfalfa, kelp and dandelion and is a source of the 77 trace minerals the body needs for optimal health. Kelp is high in iodine to nourish the thyroid, dandelion gently cleanses the liver and kidneys, and alfalfa nourishes the blood and joints.

If you are feeling sluggish and wake up with stiff joints, your lymphatic system may be sluggish or congested. Your lymphatic system is a key player in the removal of toxins and waste from your body, as well as keeping your immune system healthy. The lymphatic system does not have a pump to move it through the body, lymph moves because of contractions in our muscles during movement, by way of gravity and by the constant pressure of lymph in and out of the cells. Inactivity and lack of adequate exercise causes the lymph to get congested.

Some common symptoms of Lymph congestion:

  • Feeling stiff and sore in the mornings

  • Rings get tight around your fingers

  • Marks around your ankles from your socks, ankles swell

  • Body odor or foul-smelling stools

  • Feeling tired and sluggish, heavy legs

  • Itchy skin

  • Brain fog

My favorite formula to cleanse the lymph and boost the immune system for the fall season is Nature's Sunhine's LymphoMax. This formula contains cleavers, garlic, mullein, red root, lobelia and echinacea, these herbs are like “Super Heroes” when it comes to shrinking swollen glands, cleansing the lymph and clearing out mucus. This is a great formula to activate weight loss. I just started taking 3 capsules twice a day to begin my fall cleanse.

Read my blog Feeling Stagnant and Blah? to learn more on how to cleanse the lymphatic system.
